AUT hosts a large number of scholars under the New Zealand Scholarships Programme for Developing Countries (formerly NZAID).
About the New Zealand Scholarships Programme – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade New Zealand (MFAT)
The scholarships are made available to enable international students to study in New Zealand. Citizens from selected developing countries intending to undertake tertiary level study in New Zealand can apply for these scholarships to study at AUT.
The MFAT’s scholarships provide the skills and requisite training to selected individuals. In the long run, it builds the participants’ capacity to contribute to the sustainable development of crucial areas in their home country.

Scholarships available: New Zealand Scholarships for Developing Countries
These are full tertiary scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate academic study in New Zealand. Also, they are available to eligible international students.
Priority is given to applicants who choose one of the recommended subjects specified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

What to include in your application
As part of the application process, you need to describe:
- How preferred courses relate to one of the recommended study subjects
- The skills and knowledge you want to gain from your preferred courses
- How these skills and knowledge are crucial to your country’s development.

Ph.D. applicants from the Pacific Island region
Ph.D. applicants from the Pacific Island region are encouraged to look at The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee AUT Doctoral Scholarship in the AUT scholarships database. Check the scholarship database for available PHD programs
Commonwealth Scholarships
New Zealand offers Commonwealth Scholarships to candidates from developing Commonwealth countries for postgraduate study (MSc and Ph.D.) in New Zealand.
