Google Takeout: this is well known as “Download your Data”, and its project is fronted by Google Data Liberation Front (GDLF). The project allows Google Product users like YouTube & Gmail the exportation of their data to an archive file.
Only Google Buzz, Google Contacts, Google Profile, Google Streams, and Picasa Albums were initially exported.
After several requests from Takeout users, Google announced the exporting of Google +1s to the list the following month, on July 15, 2011.
On September 6, 2011, Google added “Google Voice” to its export service. Meanwhile, on September 26, 2012, Takeout included YouTube video exports, which was a significant milestone.
Also, on February 17, 2013, Google took another significant step forward by adding Blogger posts and Google+ sites. Google Takeout was updated on December 5, 2013, to add Gmail and Google Calendar info.

How to Use Google Takeout as a Backup Option
Google Takeout makes it simple to download or move your data to another device. It’s the most straightforward approach to transfer your data from Google’s digital world to your own. Begin with something simple if this is your first time ordering takeout.
See below for the steps on how to go use the Google Takeout project.
- Effectively navigate to takeout.google.com, and select the “Deselect Option”. Via the Default process, Google Takeout selects all the possible data & different types of files, and then adds them to the Takeout archive.
- Navigate down & choose the “Google Photos” check box.
- To pick particular picture albums for placement in the Takeout archive, choose All photo albums included. All photo albums are set by default. Deselect all, and then select the photo albums you are to download individually. Then select OK when you’re finished.
- Scroll down to the button of the page & then click on “Next step”.
- Then select the file type, frequency, and the place you want your archive be.
- Also, select the maximum size for each archive file. Then under the “Delivery Method” select a place to download the archive file when the archive is ready.
- Take note that your storage quota is depleted when you transmit files to such cloud storage providers.
- Select how often files should be exported for download under Frequency. You choose to export once or every two months for a year.
- Select the archive file’s file type and maximum size in File type & size.
- Finally, choose “Create export“, and then wait as Google collects and archives the files according to your preferences.
Note >>
Takeout sends you an email with a link to the archived files once it’s finished. Click Download Archive from that email to begin downloading it just like any other file. Your information is sent from Google’s servers to your Media library.
Is Google Takeout a Good Option for your Organization?
You might be wondering if Google Takeout could be a good backup option for your company based on the information above.
The straightforward answer is no. While Google Takeout enables you to download and transfer your Google data, it lacks security and recovery features in the event of data loss due to accidental deletions or assaults.
Here are some potential drawbacks to using Google Takeout as a backup option:
Backups Limits in Frequency
Takeout may download your Google data automatically twice a year if you set it up that way. This might lead to restoration concerns since the frequency would be insufficient to ensure that everything is maintained secure.
You can back up your Google Workspaces using AvePoint’s Cloud Backup three to four times per day.
Problems with their Security
When data has been retrieved, its security is jeopardized.
Even without owner’s knowledge or administrators, it can be transferred from one server to another or even transferred to the cloud, compromising confidentiality.
Google Takeout – Compatibility issues
Other tools may not even be compatible with files downloaded using Google Takeout. Data handling with Google Sheets, for example, may not open in Ms. Word or Excel.
Therefore, it’s probably unsafe to use Google Takeout as an option for your organization. And for more information, stay connected on our website for the latest updates with similar articles like this one.
